Richard Peak of Next Base describes in Fleet News the challenges faced by fleet managers over vehicle theft and ways to deter criminals from targeting your cars. For example, keyless car technology is responsible for 94% of cars thefts in 2024.  Thieves are no longer joyriders but parts of  sophisticated criminal gangs dealing in second hand cars and car parts.  Richard says that combining simple and sophisticated technology is the best way to protect your vehicles.  His tips include keeping keyless fobs in a faraday pouch,  using a steering wheel clamp, and using deadbolts in any vans that might be in your fleet.  You can also remind your staff of the basics such as locking vehicles properly and not leaving them unattended when defrosting windscreens.  Install CCTV or an alarm system to your garage or warehouse.  Dash cams these days not only act as CCTV but can also have tracking and alarm capabilities.
