You may have read about a TikTok challenge that has seen a spike in Kia and Hyundai car thefts – thieves using the hashtag KiaBoys has seen teens hotwire these cars via the USB cord and film themselves driving around in the stolen cars.  Well, the knock on effect is now that two major US car insurance firms plan to stop insuring the models affected (manufactured between 2015 & 2019).

A report released in September 2022 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Highway Loss Data Institute showed that Hyundai and Kia vehicles lacked electronic mobilisers (later models are installed with immobilisers and thefts have tailed off).  There have been several work arounds including Hyundai offering steering locks and a bluetooth switch that can be hard-wired to the car to immobilise the engine.

If you own a Kia or Hyundai manufactured between 2015 & 2019 then you should be prudent and take precautions against theft.  A Find It Stop It GPS tracker is just £59.95 with no ongoing monthly subscription. Our device also comes with a stop function which can be switched on to stop the vehicle if it is stolen or car jacked.  Please note that this is different to an immobiliser, and continued use could see the battery is drained or the unit damaged.
